Stillness in the Chaos: A 5-Day Devotional for Busy Moms

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: The Invitation to Rest

Scripture:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

Devotional:
Motherhood is beautiful, but it’s also demanding. From the moment you wake up to the time your head hits the pillow, you’re needed. You juggle multiple roles—caregiver, teacher, chef, nurse, and more. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, your soul can feel weary.

Jesus understands what it means to feel the weight of constant demands. He walked among people who pressed on Him from every side, seeking His attention, His healing, and His wisdom. And yet, in the middle of all that noise and urgency, He made time to be alone with the Father. “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”Luke 5:16 (NIV)

The invitation Jesus extends to you in Matthew 11:28 is not just for rest from physical exhaustion; it’s an invitation to soul-deep rest. The kind of rest that can only be found in His presence. It’s a call to step away from the noise, the demands, and the constant rush, and find renewal in quiet communion with Him.

Maybe you feel like you don’t have time to be still. Your life is filled with never-ending responsibilities. But the truth is, God is not asking for hours of your time. He’s asking for moments. Moments where you choose to pause, breathe, and acknowledge His presence. Moments where you allow His peace to wash over you and restore your soul.

What would it look like to accept His invitation today? To turn off the noise, if only for a few minutes, and rest in the arms of your loving Father? Silence and solitude are not signs of neglecting your duties; they are acts of strength. Because when you take time to be with God, He gives you the grace, wisdom, and strength you need to keep going.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I come to You weary and in need of rest. My heart is often overwhelmed by all I have to do. Help me to hear Your gentle invitation to come away with You. Teach me to make space for moments of stillness, even in my busy days. Fill me with Your peace and strength. Refresh my soul, Lord, and draw me closer to You. In Your precious name, Amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What are the daily noises and distractions that keep you from experiencing rest in God’s presence?
  2. How would your life change if you made it a habit to spend even a few minutes each day in silence before God?
  3. What specific time or place can you set aside today to embrace God’s invitation to rest?

Action Step:
Today, find 10 minutes to step away from your responsibilities. Find a quiet place, even if it’s just your bedroom, bathroom, or car. Turn off all distractions and simply sit with God. Pour out your heart to Him, then rest in the stillness. Write down any thoughts, scriptures, or impressions He places on your heart.

Quote for the Day:
“Silence is the welcoming acceptance of the presence of God. In that space, His love speaks louder than the noise of the world.” — Oluseye Ashiru
