Rest for the Exhausted Momma’s Mind

DAY 3 OF 5

Remind Yourself What Jesus Said about Worry

Do you tend to rehearse all the possibilities—especially the scariest, most daunting ones? This is especially natural for us mommas as we spend our days and nights trying to protect and provide for our children no matter their age(s).

Telling a momma to “stop worrying” is a ridiculous suggestion. First, because no momma wants to spend her time worrying, and second, because it’s hard to break the thought patterns that created those deep concerns.

So how do we stop overthinking? How do we stop worrying? How do we grab hold of those racing thoughts?

Isaiah 26:3 gives us a hint: “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!" Life is loud and shouts for our attention. Yet Scripture is clear. We fix our thoughts on Jesus, and he keeps us in peace. It sounds simple, but what does it actually mean? I can hear the Lord speaking to us over all the chaos, kindly helping our hearts to focus: Eyes on me, baby girl. Eyes on me.

Just for today, take a deep breath and fix your thoughts on Jesus. You can’t add an hour to your life through worry, but you can greatly impact tomorrow through prayer. Practice replacing those fears one by one with the promises Jesus offers in His Word. Lean into His promise of care and concern, allowing your mind to imagine him holding you and your children in His arms.

Reflect:

What is the difference between rehearsing negative outcomes in your mind and planning for negative possibilities? How can you practice trusting the Lord as you present your worries to Him through prayer?

Pray:

Lord, worrying sometimes overwhelms me. As I do my best to care for my family, keep my mind and heart focused on your power and love. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
