Rest for the Exhausted Momma’s MindSample

Replay What God Has Already Done
A momma’s mind rarely occupies the same room that holds her feet. Our minds often race into the future, thinking of all that needs to be done, or we revisit yesterday, replaying what we wish we had done differently. Guilt, pain, confusion, and grief from previous seasons of life can overwhelm our minds that are already full of today’s troubles and to-dos. Ignoring the pain or pressures of the past is not the solution; undealt with emotions will always make their way to the surface, generally at the worst times. But there is something important that can be gained by looking back and choosing not to rehearse the hard parts, but instead remembering what God has done for us.
I believe the Enemy of our hearts would have us write off entire chunks of our story. “Nothing good to remember there!” he lies, pointing out all the pain, hoping we’ll take the bait and fix our thoughts on what went wrong.
But the Lord reminds us, Even there, I was with you. Even there, I was good. Even there, you were safely held. Fix your eyes on me. Look again and see where I was in that season.
Next time you find yourself focusing on something that went wrong, gently remind yourself that God was with you then—and brought you through to the other side. Try to recount the many ways He has blessed you up until this point and hold those memories next to what you’re facing right now. How did His love and comfort carry you, and how will He continue to carry you forward?
Reflect:
What does dwelling on God’s presence and provision in the past do to your heart and mind today? When you think about all He has already done for you, do you feel more peaceful about the ways He can come through for you in your current circumstances?
Pray:
Lord, my mind needs rest. I want to look back and find Your presence in the past so I can trace it forward and rest in the promise that You are faithful. When I am overcome with emotion or worry, please remind me of your everlasting love. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
