God MathSample

Cameron hates being late; he’s the exception to the stereotype that Indians are always late. In that sense, I am definitely more Desi than he is. 🤭 Early in our marriage, this difference led to plenty of arguments. I’ve improved a lot since then, but Cameron had to forgive my poor time management countless times.
Have you ever had to forgive someone repeatedly for the same thing? If you’re married or have kids, you probably know exactly what I mean. 😉
Jesus had an interesting math formula about forgiveness when Peter asked Him:
“Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!” – Matthew 18:21-22
As we look at “God math” this week –concepts that challenge human logic–this is a perfect example. Seriously, what are the odds of the same person offending you 70 x 7 = 490 times? Although, in my case of making Cameron wait, I might have come close.🙈 Some translations say seventy-seven times. But even so, that’s a lot of forgiveness.
Jesus didn’t mean that we must keep an exact account of how many times we forgive each person. Instead, what He is teaching us here is to embrace an ongoing attitude of forgiveness.
Jesus keeps forgiving our sins over and over again, no matter how many times we mess up. In the same way, we must develop a posture of forgiveness toward others.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. – Ephesians 4:31-32
Are there people you need to forgive today?
