Platforms vs. Pillars

DAY 2 OF 7

Have you ever napped under a tree? Those are the best naps! Growing up, I’d spend vacations in my mom’s village, away from Mumbai’s hustle. Life moved slower there, and I’d find a shady tree to drift off under almost everyday. I don’t know if it’s just the outdoor air or the oxygen the tree provides (I’m no scientist), but I’d wake up feeling more refreshed than any indoor nap ever managed.

There’s something special about trees–they’re symbols of strength, growth and comfort. The Bible compares us to trees in Psalm 1:1-3 describing the blessed person:

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. – Psalm 1:3

Trees take years to grow big; during this time, they endure seasons, grow deep roots, and provide fruit, shade, and support to their surroundings.

Another great picture is the one Peter uses in 1 Peter 2:5:

You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Trees, living stones, and pillars all have the same traits: they stand the test of time and provide support for others.

Unlike platforms—built quickly and torn down just as fast—pillars stand firm, often the last part standing, even if the rest of the building they were holding up has fallen to ruins.

A platform is something you stand on, but pillars stand for the support of others.

Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, make me a pillar in Your Kingdom. Teach me to stand firm through every season, grow deep roots in You, and support those around me as a pillar of Your love and strength.

Hey! You are a Chamatkar
