How to Start Well and Finish Great

DAY 2 OF 6

Walk Wisely And With The Wise

The Bible personifies wisdom as a woman who calls people to her if they desire to live well. Folly is also described as a woman who beckons and invites people into a life of foolishness and indiscretion. The day you became a Christian by choosing to follow Jesus is the greatest day of your life. You chose to take the narrow way, the road less traveled, when you chose Jesus. It’s a life, like anyone else’s, that has ups and downs, but you have an edge when you walk this road. It's the edge that wisdom brings. We read in Colossians 2:3 that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. So when we grow closer in relationship to Christ and grow in our knowledge of God’s word we begin to discover those priceless nuggets of wisdom that help us live with purpose and strength in a hard world.

Jesus taught a parable of how a person discovered a pearl of great price and in order to purchase it, he sold all he had. Of course, this seems a bit extreme to us who live in the 21st century but what He meant was that those of us who have found Jesus to be our Saviour and Redeemer must pursue Him and His ways in order to succeed in the long run. We have heard it said that ‘Life is a marathon, not a sprint’ and for us to run the race with endurance, without giving up or getting sidetracked, we will need wisdom and all its derivatives- insight, discernment, prudence and understanding.

We don’t just need wisdom, we also need wise people with whom to run our life’s race. Wise people are those who have also put their hope and faith in Jesus and are doing their very best to live in a way that honors God. These are people that you should do life with, purely because of the encouragement and strength they will bring to you. They will be the wind in your sails on days you feel unmotivated. They will be the catalyst when you have no extra energy. They will be the ones that hold you when you weep and celebrate with you when you win. You cannot do life without the body of Christ. You were not saved by the blood of Jesus to live in isolation and just make do. You were saved to live for Jesus and to do that you need to surround yourself with others who have the same goal.

Tip:

Make sure you find a church where you can plant yourself so that you mature in love and grow in faith. The church will also help you discover your gifts and help you tap into all that God has for you. No church is perfect, but Jesus is- keep looking to Him.
