How to Start Well and Finish Great

DAY 1 OF 6

Keep God At The Top

There is a tendency for every believer in Jesus Christ to start off their Christian life on a high. This high will feel like a mountaintop experience because you just invited the God of all creation into your life. It’s a genuine high, though, because it will be the pinnacle of all of your life’s achievements and memories. It will be life-changing and life-defining in every way. You will feel lighter than you ever did because your sins are washed away now. You will feel more free than you ever did because of the freedom that Christ brings. You will feel more alive than you ever did because you have the Spirit that rose Jesus within you. Whoa!! What a rush!

The hard truth, though, is that after a few days and weeks go by, you begin to feel the pushback and setbacks that inevitably enter all our lives. That negative feedback from your professor, that rejection from someone you thought liked you, that struggle with your family- to name a few, begin to knock on your life’s door. You find that this Christian life is hard because you have old problems but need a new mindset. You have the same physical environment, but your spiritual environment has had an upgrade. How do you not just cope but thrive in such situations, which is life as we know it?

Will you keep the relationship with your Creator, Saviour, and Master God right at the top of your list of priorities? There was a list? Well, everyone has one. What differs is who or what takes up the top priority. The God you invited in, is there to stay. It will really depend upon you to build that relationship every day, consciously and intentionally. The way you do it is to set apart time each day before you begin any other work to just commune with God. To commune is to sit with Him and enjoy his presence as you meditate on His word and speak with Him. Meditating on his word will need you to begin to read your bible with the sole purpose of just getting to know God more. You grow in your understanding and awe of God when you enter the spiritual discipline of prayer. Prayer is a two-way communication where you speak to Him and let Him speak back to you. As young as you are, there never is a better time to discern God’s voice over the other voices all around you than now!

When you make time for God on a daily basis, nothing that happens to you or around you will create the confusion and disillusionment that usually follows. You find that since you have been in His presence and in His word, you have a greater peace and joy than ever before. As you follow this for a lifetime, you will find that no matter how you begin, you can end each day on the high of knowing that God is with you, He’s fighting for you, and He brings good out of every circumstance.

Tip:

As you read your Bible every day, ask the Holy Spirit to highlight things He desires for you to see and understand. As you pray, make it a practice to just listen after you speak.
