Revive Us, Lord: A 40-Day Journey Through the Gospel of John

DAY 8 OF 40

Taking Jesus at His Word

Summary

  • In this passage, Jesus returned to Galilee, where the residents welcomed Him for the miraculous signs that He had done in Jerusalem.
  • A royal official sought Jesus out, begging for his son's healing. The official asked Jesus to come to his home to heal his son. However, Jesus challenged him to believe without seeing.
  • Taking Jesus at His word, the man headed home. He subsequently discovered that his son was healed at the exact moment Jesus declared it.
  • This was the second miraculous sign. Through this, the official and his entire household believed in Christ.

Reflect

1. What does this passage reveal about Jesus' authority and power? How does it challenge the way we approach Him in prayer?

2. The royal official trusted Jesus’ word without needing immediate proof. Is there an area in your life where God is asking you to trust Him fully while you have yet to see the outcome?

The video highlights the significance of understanding Jesus beyond His miracles. In Cana, the royal official's faith journey represents a pivotal moment: moving from reliance on signs to genuine belief in Jesus’ word. The call is to focus on Jesus, the Giver, not just His gifts.

Reflect

3. Are there moments where you have been so focused on what God can do for you that you actually miss out on the deeper relationship He offers? How can you shift your perspective to seek Jesus for Himself rather than only for His works?

Closing Prayer

Ask God to help you trust in His word even when you cannot see the outcome. Pray for a faith that believes without the need to see.

About this Plan

Revive Us, Lord: A 40-Day Journey Through the Gospel of John

For the next 40 days, we’ll journey through the Gospel of John, exploring his first-hand account of Jesus’ life. John gives us a glimpse of what it was like to be with Jesus, revealing who He is and how He reflects the very nature of God. Throughout the Gospel, Jesus makes bold claims about Himself, not just for people then but for us today. He calls for a response—one that will shape our lives, destiny, and eternal reward. Will we truly believe in Him? Will we follow Him as our Master and Lord to the very end?
