Revive Us, Lord: A 40-Day Journey Through the Gospel of JohnSample

Living Water and True Worship
Summary
- In John 4, Jesus engaged in a spontaneous conversation with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well.
- Despite cultural and social barriers, He spoke to her about the living water that led to eternal life. As the conversation deepened, Jesus revealed His knowledge of her life and offered her hope.
- This encounter shifted to a discussion about worship, where Jesus explained that true worshippers would worship the Father in spirit and in truth.
- The woman was amazed at Jesus’ spiritual discernment, and she rushed back to share her encounter with her community, leading many to believe in Jesus.
Reflect
1. What is the "living water" that Jesus offered to give? How does it contrast with the water the woman was drawing from the well?
2. Reflect on your own life. Are there areas where you seek for temporal fulfilment instead of seeking the eternal satisfaction that Jesus offers? How can you turn to Him for the "living water"? What must you do today?

Videos used with permission by Michael Hoff
In this video, Jesus deliberately entered a setting filled with cultural and societal tension to offer grace and truth. He used ordinary circumstances, like asking for water, to reveal profound spiritual truths. The narrative also echoes various events from the Old Testament, where significant moments often occurred at wells.
Reflect
3. Jesus shows us in this passage that we can take ordinary encounters as opportunities to share God’s love with others. Will you pray for an opportunity to share the Gospel with someone this coming week?
Closing Prayer
Ask God to help you worship Him in spirit and in truth. Ask for the living water to quench your thirst. Pray for opportunities to use ordinary encounters for His extraordinary purposes.

About this Plan

For the next 40 days, we’ll journey through the Gospel of John, exploring his first-hand account of Jesus’ life. John gives us a glimpse of what it was like to be with Jesus, revealing who He is and how He reflects the very nature of God. Throughout the Gospel, Jesus makes bold claims about Himself, not just for people then but for us today. He calls for a response—one that will shape our lives, destiny, and eternal reward. Will we truly believe in Him? Will we follow Him as our Master and Lord to the very end?
