Beyond Mountains (S2-E8)Sample

Holistic Faith
Spirit. Soul. Body.
Body. Soul. Spirit.
What is the correct order?
In different times and places, people have answered that question differently. In this episode of The Chosen, John and Simon the Zealot have a short conversation about it. John thinks the mind and spirit matter most; Simon argues that the body is essential too. Their conversation is actually a great reminder: we are integrated beings, but we too often focus on one part at the expense of the others.
Today’s Scriptures help us see that God cares about the whole person.
In Hebrews 10, we hear Jesus say, “You have given Me a body.” The eternal Son took on flesh — a real, physical body — and in that body He offered Himself on the cross. Through that sacrifice, reconciliation became possible. Have you ever stopped to think about how extraordinary it is that God’s Son was given a body like ours? That salvation came through something so physical?
Paul builds on that truth when he writes about our own bodies. Twice he calls them a temple; a dwelling place of God. When you believed in Jesus, the Holy Spirit came to dwell in you. And that means your actual, physical body has become a place where God lives.
God with us.
God in us.
Immanuel.
Your body was purchased at a great cost. Jesus gave His body so that you could give yours back to Him — not as a sacrifice for sin, but as a living space for the Holy Spirit. So, as Paul writes, “Therefore, glorify God with your body.”
What might that look like?
Sometimes glorifying God with your body is simple: rest, honesty, healthy rhythms, worship, service. Sometimes it’s costly: choosing purity, setting boundaries, caring for the vulnerable, using your strength for someone else’s good. But whatever it looks like, it begins with remembering this truth:
You belong to Him — fully.
Spirit. Soul. Body.
Reflection Questions
- In your daily life, which gets the most attention: spirit, soul, or body?
- How do you usually view your body? As a burden, a tool, or a temple?
- What does it mean for you to glorify God with your body?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for becoming human and coming so close to us. Thank You for bearing in Your body all the punishment for my sins and the sins of those around me. Help me You with every part of who I am. Amen.
