Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 305 OF 365

Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13).

Are your eyes fixed toward heaven?

Paul proclaims that believers should be anticipating the imminent return of Jesus. "Looking" is a present tense verb and conveys a continual waiting. Elsewhere the apostle refers to the Rapture as the "one hope of your calling" (Ephesians 4:4) and in our current passage as "the blessed hope." "Blessed" means marked by favor. Specifically, the "blessed hope" and "glorious appearing" point us to Jesus Christ whom Paul calls "our great God." Literally the Greek says, "the great God and Savior of us, Jesus Christ." One article (the) connects "God and Savior" with Jesus. Having this expectation motivates us to be morally pure and "zealous for good works" (Titus 2:14). Eyes focused upon heaven keep us pleasing God at all times!

Employment Point: Continually look for Jesus' return, accompanied by holy living and zealously serving the Lord.
