Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 303 OF 365

Be diligent to come to me quickly (2 Timothy 4:9).

To whom do you turn during a crisis?

Paul understands that death knocks at his door. He writes, "For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand" (2 Timothy 4:6). He calls for his son in the faith to bring him a cloak to keep his aging body warm, and his books to keep his mind spiritually acute. Thankfully Timothy remains loyal to the Lord and Paul, "for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world" (2 Timothy 4:10). The contrast is clear: Timothy is devoted to Paul while Demas is devoid of spiritual commitment. Paul writes about Timothy to the Corinthians, "who will remind you of my ways in Christ" (1 Corinthians 4:17). Furthermore, the apostle dispatches Timothy to Philippi saying, "For I have no one like-minded," which literally means like souled (Philippians 2:20).

Employment Point: Be a loyal follower of Jesus and support His servants.
