Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 300 OF 365

Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not (Jeremiah 20:9).

Is God's holy word burning within you?

For the first time in the Book of Jeremiah the prophet personally experiences violence (Jeremiah 20:2). He becomes despondent because of the opposition from those who should have heeded the message of repentance. Yet he breaks forth into praise knowing that his righteous judge will avenge him. He exclaims, "But the LORD is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper" (Jeremiah 20:11). Moreover, God's Word burned in his heart, and he could not quench its flames.

Employment Point: Implant God's Word deeply into your heart so that it will burn even during dark days.
