Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Then the LORD said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood before Me, My mind would not be favorable toward this people. Cast them out of My sight, and let them go forth" (Jeremiah 15:1).
How committed is God to justice?
God cites two great prayer warriors to depict the depth of Israel's sin. Both men of God have an intercessory ministry for the nation. The Philistines attack Israel, and Samuel prays for deliverance (1 Samuel 7). "And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. Then Samuel cried out to the LORD for Israel, and the LORD answered him" (1 Samuel 7:9). Similarly, Moses intercedes for Israel concerning the golden calf incident, and the Lord honors his prayer (Exodus 32:11-14). Yet God would not pardon Israel during Jeremiah's ministry "because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for what he did in Jerusalem" (Jeremiah 15:4).
Employment Point: Don't presume upon God's mercy, because He also administers justice.
