For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

Is work a curse?

God punched a time clock. He created the world in six days. "Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good" (Genesis 1:31). Since the Creator knows that labor is good, He puts the first man to work. Moses writes, "Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it" (Genesis 2:15).

Sadly, some of the saints at Thessalonica were gossips and not working. They didn't learn these practices from Paul and his associates. He states, "For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day" (2 Thessalonians 3:7-8).
