Jumping to the New Testament, we are reminded of God's plan for the temple after Jesus. When Jesus dies, the curtain of the temple is torn, showing that the temple would no longer be the way God dwells with His people. Jesus' life and sacrificial death on the cross cleanses us of sin, so now 1 Corinthians 6 tells us that our body is actually where God's temple lives now, through the Holy Spirit in us.
This, of course, means we should restrain from sin with our body and keep it pure. But it also shows an even bigger truth - it shows the value God has for us as people and how the Holy Spirit lives in our hearts! God's plan for the world runs through us, imperfect human people saved by Christ's love. He loves us and believes in us so much that He put part of Himself in us. This should give us godly love for ourselves and a challenge for us to live in the way that God asks.
Think it Over: Do you view yourself the way that God does? How does this verse give you identity?
