DAY 14 OF 365

I have heard it said if you don't toot your own horn, who is going to do it? Let's agree that a business has to advertise its products, and that an organization has to make itself known; but we may draw the line between those situations and the tendency many people have of boasting about their own achievements. The Apostle Peter took pains not to toot his own horn. We read in Acts 3 where God used him to heal a crippled beggar. People were in awe of the wonderful miracle. Peter saw this as an opportunity to explain how it happened. He was careful to give credit to Jesus whom they had crucified. Here is how he addressed them: "People of Israel, what is so astounding about this? And why look at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power and godliness—the God of all our ancestors has brought glory to His servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate's decision to release him. You rejected this holy righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer. You killed the author of life, but God raised Him to life. And we are witnesses of this fact! The name of Jesus has healed this man. Faith in Jesus' name has caused this healing before your very eyes." Peter refused to take credit for what God had done. We might very well take a tip from Peter.
