DAY 13 OF 365

The Skeptics Society says it exists to resist the spread of pseudoscience, superstition, and irrational beliefs. They say a claim becomes a fact when evidence confirms it to be true. Based on this understanding, the Pharisees in Jesus' day would not be true skeptics. Despite the evidence staring them in the face, they denied that Jesus' power to heal came from God. According to Matthew 12, Jesus cured a demon-possessed man who could not speak or see. The Pharisees scorned what Jesus did. They said, "No wonder he can heal. He gets His power from Satan, the prince of demons." Jesus called their logic irrational. He said, "If Satan is casting out Satan, he is fighting against himself. His kingdom will not stand. But if I am casting out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come among you." In other words, Jesus is saying, "By casting out demons, I show that I came from God; and if I have come from God, you are obligated to listen to God's message I bring." Jesus' logic still holds. All that we know about Jesus Christ—His birth, His character, His miracles, His Father's voice from heaven, His death, and His resurrection—testifies that Jesus came from God, our Creator. Since that is so, we are obligated to listen to everything He says. To ignore Him is to ignore God. To ignore God makes us accountable to God. No one wants to be on the wrong side of God.
