DAY 17 OF 365

Back in 1980, Evelyn Christiansen authored the book "What Happens When Women Pray?" The book was immensely popular with women. At least one megachurch owes its rapid growth to women who used the book at a retreat. The book study so motivated them that they returned home to pray and assist in building their church. Of course, God honors the prayers of both men and women, but women say God often does something special for them when they dedicate themselves to prayer. You may recall that after Christ ascended, His disciples gathered in the Upper Room to pray. We read in Acts 1 that all the disciples met together continually for prayer. The group included Mary the mother of Jesus and several other women. The women may have included those from Galilee who were present for Christ's crucifixion. According to Luke 8:1–3, women often traveled with Jesus to support Him and His disciples. Here in Jerusalem after Jesus left, they all met to pray. After a season of prayer, Peter stood up and spoke about the need to select someone to fill the place of Judas, who betrayed our Lord. Once two people were nominated, the entire gathering of both men and women prayed for the right person to be chosen. We learn from this that God honors the prayers of both men and women.
