The Gospel of MarkSample

Mark 9 contains one of the more interesting and puzzling scenes in the gospel, The Transfiguration. As we will see throughout this week, this is an important event for the Father to show the significance of who Jesus is and what he has come to do.
Theologian Dorothy Lee notes that this event is revealing something in the present about what God will do, in Jesus, in the future: “The three phases - ascent, revelation, descent - make use of apocalyptic symbols of light and radiant garments, by which Mark depicts the unfolding drama of God's future, breaking into the grim realities of the present” (p9, Transfiguration).
Look out for the themes of ascent, revelation, and descent in the chapter as you are reading today, and write in the sharing section what you notice!
