The Gospel of Mark

DAY 54 OF 112

You can imagine, hearing this news that the Messiah, Jesus, came to die and rise again was shocking!! We see this in Peter’s response.

Peter rebukes Jesus. But Jesus then rebukes Peter, saying get behind me, Satan!

This is a strong rebuke from Jesus. Jesus said you do not have in mind the things of God but the things of man.

It was more than likely loving intentions from Peter, rebuking what Jesus had said. But what was dangerous about that, was Peter allowed his idea of what he thought the Messiah would be, to stand more true than the truth that Jesus, the Messiah, shared with him. Peter’s rebuke of Jesus was a human concern.

When we concern ourselves with the things that concern God, we will quickly start to understand the depth of God’s love and concern for us. We have to be careful in letting our ideas of what we think God should do stand in the way of God’s Gospel truth. A lot of the time, the way God chooses to work in our lives or through us is much different than what we have in mind. But God is God and we are not. What we can hold on to and hope in, is that Jesus is Lord and what He says is true. And that all of His plans and His words are good and true.

Q: When we become anxious, how can we fix our minds on Kingdom thoughts, instead of the things of man? Encourage testimonies to be shared if there are any.
