Man: God's Image Bearer

Day 5 of 6 • This day’s reading

Our Helper

God is holy. Jesus is holy. We are not.

These facts might be discouraging had God not provided a sacrifice for our sin and made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus’ death and resurrection; But He did. Not only does God adopt those who accept His free gift of eternal salvation as His own children, but God also sends Jesus’ Holy Spirit to live in their hearts and help them reflect and glorify God as Jesus did.

The Holy Spirit does many things for God’s children. He convinces them of the sin in their lives, helps them pray effective prayers, helps them understand the Bible and apply it to their lives, helps them discern God’s will, causes them to bear spiritual fruit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control), equips them with spiritual gifts to serve the Church, empowers them, and gives them peace, joy, and hope…and that is just the beginning!

If you put your faith in Jesus for salvation from the consequences of sin, over time His Spirit will fill you up and transform you into Jesus’ image. As long as you continue to depend on and obey Him, God will give you the supernatural strength and wisdom you need to do anything He asks you to do. Not only will you glorify God in existence and function as the Creator’s image bearer, but you will also glorify God through your obedience as a transformed child of the Father after Jesus’ perfect example.

  • Have you put your faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation from the consequences of sin?
  • What is your current relationship to God, creation or child?
  • In what way(s) does your life glorify God, or draw attention to His perfection?

Read Romans 10:9-10, Galatians 4:4-7, and 2 Corinthians 3:18.
