Growing in Truth – For ParentsSample

Read Psalm 25:5
Think
Remember the story of David? He was faithful in his youth to watch his father’s sheep and spent his time in the fields observing God’s beautiful creation, writing songs of worship, and talking with God often. Most importantly, young David asked the Lord to lead him and teach him truth. He grew up and was called, “a man after God’s own heart.” and was handed the crown and responsibility of being the second king of Israel.
Take a look back at your growing up years—what was God training you for? What is the big responsibility you’ve been given at this point in your life? And could you be called a person after God’s heart? You don’t have to be young to ask the Lord to lead and teach you into a deeper walk with Him. Make today’s reading the cry of your heart today: Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.
Talk
Ask yourself: Think of a time you had to wait for something, and learned a valuable lesson.
Ask a child: What is the longest you have ever had to wait for something?
Discuss together: What is the one thing we can each do today (and every day this week) that will help us walk in truth?
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the truth in your Word. Please help me remember that you’ve been preparing me since my youth for the responsibilities before me today. I need you to teach me and guide me in your ways. Help me to wait for you and not take matters into my own hands, or try to do things in my own strength. Amen.
