Now, we get to the climax of the story - Judas' betrayal. The mob silently snuck up, and Judas showed them who to arrest by kissing him on the cheek, a sign of friendship. Think of the depth of sadness Jesus must have felt in that moment. And yet, it's Jesus who remained calm. Jesus remained gracious, and Jesus remained peaceful.
Jesus let himself be arrested without fighting. Can you imagine how much strength it takes to do that? We often picture strength as the ability to fight, and that's part of it. But how much more strength does it take to hold yourself back when you have the ability and right to stand up for yourself? That's what we see in Jesus here. For our sake, Jesus held himself back so that he could make a way through the cross for us to be saved.
Think it Over: If Jesus' love for you was so great that he would let all this happen to him, what do you think can keep you away from Jesus if you want to be near him?
