Later in the book of Numbers, we see yet another aspect of how God wants to be close to His people: His forgiveness. The people disobeyed God and were dying as a result of their sins, but God did not want this to be the end of the story. Instead of continuing to punish the people, he instead gives them a way to be redeemed and healed if they repent. This story shows that God will always forgive His people because He loves them. Our God is not far away and distant; He wants a relationship with the people He has made His own.
Think it Over: How do you know God has forgiven you? Where does Jesus come into this?
