Romans Part 3 - LIFESample

Romans Part 3 - LIFE

DAY 9 OF 35

The World’s Greatest Pandemic

As we read our verse for today, think back to the COVID Pandemic. The CDC reported over 700 million cases of COVID and over 6 million deaths. Now, imagine for a moment a pandemic that has affected not hundreds of million or even a billion people. but everyone! Imagine further, that pandemic didn’t last for three years or a decade but for all time! Everyone from every generation, young and old, men and women, babies and children…everyone, everywhere, for all time, affected.

Can you imagine the damage and horror of that pandemic?

COVID pales in comparison. Romans 5:12 tells us we are infected with just such a disease: SIN. Sin entered the world through one person and has infected all of mankind. We not only are born with the propensity to sin, but it is also as natural as breathing for us. It has warped our humanity and has infected us all.

Lest we think someone is beyond this infection, let’s consider the following: Cute little babies can’t be sinful. Right?…Nope! The Bible is clear we are born in sin (Psalm 51:5) Surely, faithful grandma or my godly pastor or my Spirit-filled mentor or my sweet Sunday school teacher can’t be a sinner? Wrong! Everyone is born in sin. As Romans 3:10-12 clarifies, we are all sinful; multiple Old Testament verses verify this.

The conclusion is that the sinfulness of humanity is universal! Well almost… Consider this one unique person. He is in a category of His own. Hebrews 4:15 tells about Him. He is our Great High Priest who can sympathize with utterly sinful humans because, as this verse teaches, He was tempted in every way yet without sin.

Not only that, but 1 John 3:5 tells us, “He took away sin and in Him there is no sin.”

The Good News doesn't stop there…1 Corinthians 15:22 tells us that though we all were infected with the deadly sin disease, through Adam, Jesus cures us and brings us back to life.

When we read the description in the Bible of the Great Pandemic of Sin and its devastating effect, we must remember that Jesus is the Great Physician, especially for this disease of the soul, sin. The Bible is all about Jesus' work to pay for and remove sin!

Why not take a minute to thank the Lord Jesus for His cure for your deadly disease of sin and His gift of faith that allows HIm to be that Great Physician in your life?
