NYC Experience Reflection
As a lifelong Church of the Nazarene member, I have attended every NYC since 1987 (except one) as either a student, adult volunteer, or youth sponsor. These events have forever impacted my life.
One moment that especially stands out is when the summer before my junior year of high school, we went to Washington, D.C. On our service project day, we were tasked with cleaning a playground at an apartment complex in the inner city. While we were working, a little boy (I still remember his name) kept following us around. He was alone and seemed interested in what we were doing. We talked to him and put our brooms down to play with him on the playground. He began asking why we were there, and as I shared with him about our tasks, I realized he had never heard about Jesus. In the middle of slides, swings, and teeter-totters, I could share the most beautiful story ever told with one of God’s children. We prayed with him, and when I returned to the bus to head back to our dorm, I had an overwhelming feeling of peace, knowing that day was a day that solidified my decision to walk with Christ. I would never turn back.
Discussion Question:
How did your relationship with Christ change at or after your experience in NYC?
Have you made a lifetime commitment to follow Him? If not, reach out to a pastor or youth pastor and have them walk you through that decision.
