Easter: Heaven Knows

DAY 6 OF 7

Heaven Knows How to Comfort Us

Have you ever found yourself in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by strangers and new customs? It can be a disorienting and overwhelming experience. In those moments, we often seek something familiar, something we can hold on to and find comfort in. Perhaps it’s the sight of a familiar face in a crowded room or the sound of an old song on the radio. Maybe it’s the taste of a favorite food or the smell of a particular scent. Whatever it is, we cling to it because we find comfort there.

This is what God does for us. He sees us in uncertainty and provides comfort and stability, just as a friend’s familiar face at a party can do. He knows our needs and desires and is always ready to meet them. This was true for my wife and I when we embarked on a missionary journey in Asia. The people we met were wonderful. The food was great. But as the weeks passed, we started feeling a bit lost in a foreign land. We longed for something familiar, something like home.

That’s when we asked around for an American restaurant and were directed to Kenny Roger Chicken Roasters. The moment we stepped inside, the aroma of macaroni and cheese greeted us. We knew we were in the right place. As we enjoyed our chicken and cornbread, we felt the comfort and familiarity we had been missing. It was as if God had led us there to remind us that no matter where we go, He is with us.

But it’s not just in foreign lands that we seek out comfort and familiarity. We do it in our everyday lives, too. We go to the same coffee shop every morning. We have our favorite chair and listen to the same music. Such things give us a sense of stability and routine that we crave. Yet the ultimate source of comfort and stability is God. He is the one who provides for us, leads us through the unknown, and gives us a sense of belonging. He did this for the Israelites in the wilderness when He provided manna, water, shade, heat, and more.

Do you rely on yourself, or do you trust in God’s provision? Be open to the unexpected blessings that He has in store for you. Then, you will see His power and love at work in and through you.
