Day Five - Asking

If you have a child, you know they ask for everything in sight! Toys, clothes, food, electronics, you name it, they want it.

Our children ask us for what they want because they see us as the source. But in all honesty, we are not the source. God is the source, and we are the resource. In other words, resources are the things we use, and the source is where we get these things from. God provides us with everything we need to be successful parents, and, in return, we use these gifts to supply our children's needs.

To teach children how to ask God for things, they must first know He is the Provider of all things. The best way to achieve this is to lead by example. For example, when you gather around the table for dinner, thank God for providing your meal. This simple gesture can go a long way if your family is ever facing hard times and your food and money sources are running low. Your child will pray to God for more food in the house because they know where it comes from. It is important as parents to teach our children that God will give us the desires of our hearts if we seek His will.
