40 Days of Spiritual Reboot

DAY 7 OF 40

CENTRE DOWN

Today as you settle in to your place to spend time with God, we are going to look into the relationship between the living Word and the written word. It is critical that we see the connection. It is critical that we understand that our relationship with the written word runs parallel to our relationship with the living Word i.e. the Lord Jesus Christ.

As you prepare to hop between passages of scripture, do so prayerfully, anticipating that God will deepen your conviction over the next few days in your faith in God’s word itself. This is important because we cannot always see the relevance between the text and our day. There isn’t always an immediate correlation between our lives and the context of scripture. Many of us have been misinformed that the Bible is to be our daily guide, our coach and instructor, our love-letter from God. I’m sorry to burst your bubble but this is not true. God in His sovereignty has put himself in the pages of scripture and he himself is the subject, the theme and the outcome. When we go to the word looking for ourselves we end up with heresy. When we go to the word looking for Jesus, we end up with literacy. The Bible is for us but it is not about us. It is romantic to think that God has a word for us everyday. No wonder we are left disappointed and unsatisfied. Jesus is the WORD to us everyday. His WORD is LIFE. And the sooner we understand what that means, the bible will become the diet we live on.

OPEN THE BIBLE

Read John 1:1 and 1:14 - Restate in your own words your understanding of this passage. Who is Jesus?

Read 2 Timothy 3:16 - Read it slowly and break it down. Mark your observations and understanding of the text.

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:13 - Mark your observations.

Read 2 Peter 1:21 - Mark your observations and learning. When you see facts… write them down. There should be a difference between your observations and your recording of facts stated in scripture.

Read Isaiah 40:8, Matt 24:35 and finally Deut 32:46-47

COME CLEAN

Renounce false or misplaced beliefs about the bible and its place in the life of the believer. If your faith was reinforced today then reiterate your faith in the Scriptures and your commitment to let God’s word do its work in your life.

Can you remember a verse from Psalm 119? Anything that might have stuck out and played over in your head?
