40 Days of Spiritual Reboot

DAY 10 OF 40

Today is the fifth day that we are focusing on word-intake. It is a habit that we want to stick with and even though we may move to other themes, the reading portions will continue to be substantial. So you will now want to spend a bit more time with God’s word on a daily basis. Plan an extra ten minutes.

CENTRE DOWN

At the beginning of the week, the mind seems to rush in worry and anticipation of getting things done this week. There are scrambled thoughts of all the things that need to get done, the chores and assignments, the people and problems that need to be addressed. The best way to tackle this is by spending a few minutes writing these swirling thoughts down on your notepad. They turn from being scrambled thoughts to a prayer agenda. Jesus says… ‘for the father already knows you have need of these things’. Jot these down and calm down with the realisation that Jesus has reached the other end of the week and knows everything that will unfold this week and ‘He… is…. not… worried…!!!’.

Spend a few moments in prayer for the strength to be faithful in the 40 Day Reboot. Ask God for peace and His presence to rule your week and its challenges. Thank Him that He is not worried about anything.

OPEN YOUR BIBLE

As you take your bible in your hands, thank God that you worship a living God who communicates in your language and that you don’t need anybody to mediate between you and God.

Open your bible to 1 Peter. Settle into a comfortable position. Resolve not to get up and respond to anything until you’ve finished reading and reflecting on todays passage.

Read through the book of Peter at a comfortable pace. End your reading with a few moments of quietness and stillness. By this I mean NOT to close your bible and rush. Let the words that you have read settle down in your heart and mind. Stay in God’s presence and let the Spirit of God stir your soul. A lot of themes and subjects got covered in this little epistle. Yet there must be something that God would have you take away and act on this week. What could that be? Can you write that down? Is there anything you struggle to come to terms with in this epistle? Are there any verses that are worth committing to memory? Write the whole verse down on a piece of paper and carry that paper with you through the day.

COME CLEAN

Bear your heart to God. Tell him what you’re angry about, jealous about, worried about, annoyed about, anxious about. Here‘s the hard part... We think our emotions give us control over a situation. Like if we are angry with something or worried about something, we are giving due attention to that and it won’t over come us. So asking God to take these things away or solve them for you is actually a release of control. Another word for this is called ‘Surrender’. And here is the good news. Surrender is Worship!!! So in giving up your challenges, fears and prejudices to God… you just worshipped him as well. Congrats. Well done!

Bow out of the kings presence. You’re dismissed.
