40 Days of Spiritual Reboot

DAY 4 OF 40

CENTER DOWN

Get comfortable physically and mentally and calm down as has been explained to you before.

Enter into God’s presence with anticipation for ‘today‘s word’ from him.

Remember the main goal of this week is to re-engage with God in terms of disciplined time, serious diet of the Word and prayer. For some who have not been praying for a while and you’re restarting your prayer life… this week is critical to the renewal. Since prayer is the breath we breathe, it is the heart connection to God and it is our response to a God who has created us for fellowship…. re-engaging conversation is our main renewal. Getting comfortable with ‘being in God’s presence’ and ‘speaking stuff out to God’ that are more than ‘quick prayers’.

Sin shuts down communication. So where talking has ceased, sin cannot be far off. So prepare to let God point out anything that he sees as the reason either you have stopped praying or He has stopped answering.

OPEN YOUR BIBLE

Open your Bible to 1 John 1.

You will read this chapter three times.

First time: In your first reading you’re answering the question about the general theme or subject of the author. Don’t mark, don’t stop, ponder. Just read. Clear. Aloud to yourself.

Second time: In your second reading you’re going to pick up focus on the theme of ‘fellowship’ that we have with God. And what connection John makes between ‘fellowship’ and ‘joy’. Write down your observations and ask yourself the question… what could possibly threaten this fellowship and consequently rob me of that joy?

Third time: In your third reading, answer that question by stating words, phrases and concepts the become clear to you about sin and transparency. Is it the absence of sin or the presence of transparency that make for blood cleansed fellowship.

COME CLEAN

Chew on verses 8 - 10 and bare yourself to God and ask God to show you the power of living transparently. No… you don’t want to make God out to be a liar. But you do need him to show you what needs to be ‘cleansed of all unrighteousness’.

EXIT WITH PERMISSION

When you feel you have been long enough in his presence and allowed him sufficient time to speak to you… request Him to walk with you through the day and go before you. Ask for grace for the day’s demands and peace for the way.

Decide your next time of meeting and write it down. If it changes don’t wallow in guilt. Just reprioritise.

Your times with God should begin to become flexible now. Don’t set your time before you have to rush to something. Stop considering your devotional time as a learning experience. Thats not how we spend time with loved ones. Your primarily goal is to feel in your heart that you have prioritised this relationship by giving God your time and attention on ‘this day’.
