Starting a Fire It is such a joy to know that our Lord, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, inclines His ears to listen to the cry of His children. He delights when His children choose to trust in Him. When we take bold steps of faith, He sends down His fire. That’s precisely what happened when Elijah prayed (1 Kings 18). Elijah took the following bold steps: he built an altar in the name of the Lord, arranged the wood, cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood; at the time of the sacrifice, Elijah stepped forward and prayed, then the fire of the Lord fell and burned the sacrifice. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord – He is God!” Elijah made arrangements for a sacrifice that only God could consume. Today, God has poured out His Holy Spirit on His children. When His children, called by His name, step out in faith and exalt the name of Jesus, God sends His fire from heaven and, as a result, we see mighty miracles, supernatural healings and strongholds broken. This causes people to surrender their hearts to Him, who alone has the power to save. If we get things ready, through steps of faith and obedience, for what God has called us to do, He sends the fire. Our approach is like this: ‘Do something, God, and I’ll get moving.’ But God’s approach is: ‘No, you start moving, and I’ll do something.’ We all need the fire of God to fall on those we love, on our meetings and conversations. But He wants us to do something to get ready for the fire. Are we ready to do it? Prayer Lord, help us to take those steps of faith and obedience so that we can get things ready for Your heavenly fire. Amen.
