Rejoice in Suffering Suffering is a part of our life. Yet it’s definitely not a welcome part. We are never able to understand why we go through such situations. But Jesus knows very well what we are going through. He said in Matthew 16:24 (NIV), “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” So we must keep pressing forward. We may be pressed down but when God is with us and for us, we will never be crushed. We go through suffering for a reason and it teaches us a number of lessons. Suffering causes us to come closer to God, to know Him in a new way and be completely dependent on Him. Job underwent a series of losses, from his cattle to his property and servants and even his own flesh and blood, his children. His suffering caused him to really experience His creator and Maker. Thus, in Job 42:5 (NIV), he could say, “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.” So, the next time you go through difficult situations, think positively. Your situation is not a surprise to God. The Bible assures us that God works all things for our good. He is in complete control. We must focus on Him and depend on Him completely. Be encouraged and strengthened by God’s Word, which is a seed. We may sow in weeping, but the seed that is planted will take root and grow and, certainly, we will reap with rejoicing as a farmer rejoices at the beautiful harvest. Prayer Lord, help us to be submissive to You and not react during our suffering, so that we may rejoice when Your glory is revealed. Amen
