Best Friends Forever It is such a joy to have friends who love you as you are, care for you and stand by you in difficult times. Most of us will remember our dearest and oldest friends and the secrets we shared with them. People will confide their deepest secrets in us only if they consider us their friends, and more importantly, trust us. Trust is the true test of friendship. Where does this trust come from? It surely comes from our evident behavior and actions. We need to first prove ourselves worthy of another’s trust. In the same way, Jesus who considers us His friends, longs to share His secrets with us and teach us His Father’s ways. But before that, He has to be sure of us. He says, “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:14,15) As a friend of Jesus, we obey Him out of love and its resultant awe and reverence. He delights in our communion with Him, resulting in Him confiding in us His secrets, which include His covenants, ways, promises and plans for us. What an exciting place to be in, what a privilege to be privy to the Lord’s mysteries! Prayer Lord, I want to obey Your commands all the days of my life as a demonstration of my love flowing from Your love for me. Tell me Your secrets and unveil Your covenants to me. Amen.
