The Solid Rock The impact of the Nepal earthquake, during May 2015, was truly devastating. Apart from citizens losing their lives and the lives of their loved ones, many lost their possessions as well. Nature’s wrath had stripped them completely of all that they leaned on. They could only depend on the aid provided by the government during this crisis. What is our immediate reaction when faced with a crisis? Our reaction during crisis determines where our trust is. When faced with a difficult situation like the loss of a loved one, or the loss of job or property, we can draw comfort from our Lord and Savior, who promises to never leave us nor forsake us. When we commune with the Lord on a daily basis, we hear His voice and build ourselves on a foundation, which can never be shaken. Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25 NIV) When our trust and hope is built on the solid ‘rock’, that is Christ Jesus, we will be that house that can never be shaken. We may be discouraged for a time, but we encourage ourselves, finding hope in the Lord. When we pour out our hearts to Him, He becomes our fortress and makes a way, where there is no way. So, beloved, if you are facing a crisis or a difficult situation, where the help of man is rendered hopeless, take heart and let your whole being find comfort and rest in the Lord, and know that He is and will always be our very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Prayer Thank You Lord that every crisis we face is an opportunity to turn to You. We rest in the assurance that You are and will always be our refuge and our strength. Amen.
