Anxiety

DAY 3 OF 5

Think about a time recently when you were anxious. Was something out of your control, did you not know how to handle a situation, or did something you had planned go wrong? It is so easy for us to want to control everything and to have a perfect plan for every scenario. But, the reality is that we will never be able to control everything. A lot of times, our need for control can present itself as fear- fear about the future, about those close to us, and about situations we may face. The prophet Isaiah writes, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name: you are mine”. When we get so caught up in controlling things we forget that we are God’s children. He has created each and every one of us in a special and specific way. It is easy to forget when things get out of control that we have the God of the universe on our side. When we place our identity in God, it can help us get rid of some of that need for control. God has got this and we need to give up control to him. We can take comfort in the fact that God loves us and only wants the best for us.

Challenge: Give up the control over things that make you anxious to God. While control might be a that difficult thing for you, try to remember you are God’s child. The control we want to hold onto is God’s.
