Psalms: Window to Our Souls, Part 2Sample

Psalm 135 is a beautiful illustration of "sovereign grace." Verses 5-7 speak of the sovereign authority of God, while verses 8-12 demonstrate God's greatest revelation of grace in the Old Testament through the event of the Exodus. The binding of these two ideas in verses 5-12 stands as a reminder to everyone in the Old Testament that God is worthy to be praised. How do we see God's sovereignty and grace demonstrated in the New Testament and in the Church today?
Verse 5 makes an incredibly confident statement: "for I know that the Lord is great." Most of us probably regularly struggle with doubt, but God often uses those doubts to deepen our own confidence in Him. How has God used your doubts to ultimately deepen your faith in Him?
The nature of who God is in verses 13-18 allows for the psalmist to call out idols for what they truly are. How does your relationship with God allow you to identify what is precious versus what is worthless in your life? What are the idols in this world that concern you the most?
