Exodus: A Group StudySample

What is this passage saying?
The psalmist recounts the faithfulness of God to keep the covenant promises He made to Abraham and his descendants.
What is this passage teaching?
The psalmist opens his song by declaring that God is worthy of thanksgiving, trustworthy enough to be called upon in prayer, and mighty enough to be known in every nation (vs 1). He is deserving of every lyric sung and every instrument played declaring His wondrous works in all the earth (vs 2). His name is powerful enough to be gloried in, His presence is valuable enough to be sought after, and His great works are mighty enough to be remembered for a thousand generations (vs 4-5). As the psalmist recounts God’s gracious work in the history of Israel, he reminds his readers that they cannot stay silent in the face of God’s great providence over His people. Moreover, they cannot even keep their praises confined in Israel, rather they are to “make known His deeds among the nations” (vs 1).
How do I respond?
As you read today, remember that praise for God’s faithfulness to keep His promises was never meant to terminate with you. Just as the psalmist instructs God’s people to make His deeds known among the nations, God wants you to share how He has transformed your life with the people around you! Yesterday you wrote down specific moments or seasons where God has shown Himself faithful to you. Today, pray for someone to share those stories with. Maybe you have an unbelieving friend or family member who needs to hear the gospel. Telling a story of God’s faithfulness is an opportunity to show and share the gospel truth that transformed you. Whatever way you choose to share, do not stay silent. God’s great work in your life is worthy of adoration and proclamation.
