God’s Holy Name

Malachi 2:2a

Pay attention to what I say. Show honor to My name.

Do you like it when your friends make fun of your name? No one likes to be made fun of especially when it’s related to their names. Our name is our identity, given by our parents and it will stick with us forever. You will want people to respect your name. 

The same thing applies to God’s name. God commands us to honor His name. We have to show respect and honor to God’s name. God says not to misuse His name or speak of His name in vain.

For example, we’ve heard many people mention Jesus’ name, when they are surprised, angry or when they are swearing. They say Jesus’ name without any intention to have a personal talk with Jesus. This is not honoring His name. 

There is power in the name of Jesus. It is the name above all names. It is not just merely a name. Acts 4:12 says “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Let’s show honor to His name that brings salvation to the world.

Dear God, I praise Your holy name. Your name is great and worthy to be praised. Amen.
