Reality Check Kids

DAY 8 OF 21

Did you know that if you have a plant in a planter or a pot and that plant gets some kind of sickness or disease, that you have to remove the sick plant and all the soil in the pot before you can plant something else in there, otherwise the new plant will just get the same disease. The reason for this is that a plant in a pot is set apart. All its nourishment and food comes from what is in the pot. If the pot is unhealthy, the plant is unhealthy.

In this passage that Paul writes, he is encouraging the Colossians to walk in Jesus, rooted and built up in Him. Think about that plant in the pot again. Imagine a little lemon tree. If the soil is healthy, the plant will be healthy. Pretty soon, the tree will blossom. Bees will be attracted to the flowers. Healthy fruit will grow from the flowers. Paul is encouraging us as believers to be like a healthy plant rooted in Christ. Finding ALL our nourishment and fruit from Him. If we live rooted in Jesus, our fruit will be healthy and attract other people. In other words, we will be the kind of people others want to be close to.

Today is OneDay.

Take some time and think about yesterday. Go through a minute-by-minute walk through your day. If you think back, do you think ALL the fruit – all the behaviors, actions of words – YOU showed yesterday are from Jesus? Sit outside, draw a picture of one bad thing you did in the sand. Ask Jesus to forgive you and help you to make this right. Take your hand and wipe over your drawing as an action showing that you know Jesus forgives you.
