Struggle & Triumph | Who God Says I AmSample

Struggle & Triumph | Who God Says I Am

DAY 5 OF 11

I Am a New Creation

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

There was a college coach who used to recruit players to his program by walking into their homes, looking them in the eye and proclaiming, “I am going to change your life.”

That’s a bold statement.

Some coaches will promise athletes just about anything to gain the right to coach them. But this promise was different. This coach was appealing to a deep need that each of us has.

We might not always realize it, and those athletes might not have realized it at the time, but at some point we all realize that we need our lives changed for the better.

This is exactly what’s promised when we commit to following Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Jesus wants to change your life. He invites you into a relationship with Him and wants to make you into a new creation.

How have you changed as an athlete since you started seriously competing at your sport? When you first began this journey, did you realize you were going to need to change the way you played or approached the game?

You knew you couldn’t stay the same player you were when you first began and achieve all that you desired … so you had to grow. This type of metamorphosis wasn’t something you could just do on your own – you needed help.

Of course you put in work, but your coaches, trainers and teammates also helped make you who you are as an athlete today. The athlete you once were is gone and is replaced by a completely new athlete.

But that’s just sport. Your relationship with Jesus has eternal impact, and in this case you can’t will yourself to become a new creation. Our sins have separated us from the God we were created to have a relationship with.

Thanks to Jesus, we have regained that relationship. Jesus wants to change your life and make you a new creation. If you’ve chosen to follow Christ, you can rest in the fact that you are fully forgiven, thanks to what Jesus did on the cross. In the place of your previous self is a new, forgiven creation.

Application: If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus and become a new creation,  You can talk with a pastor or chaplain. Or you can say a simple prayer right now. Admit to God that you are sinful and need his forgiveness, Believe in His son Jesus Christ who died and resurrected and Confess that Jesu is Lord of your life.  If you already have this relationship, ask God to help you understand and apply this new knowledge.
