Struggle & Triumph | Who God Says I AmSample

Struggle & Triumph | Who God Says I Am

DAY 1 OF 11

 I Am Accepted and Worthy

In Psalm 139, the writer, David, explores one of our deepest needs and greatest fears: to be truly known.

He writes in verse 1, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.” He then reflects on God’s continual presence in his life. Before David has said a word, God knows. Before David’s mind has formed a thought, God knows.

No matter where he goes, the Spirit of God is there. Even if David moved to the bottom of the ocean, God would be there.

To be known like this is scary. We want our coach to be aware of our strengths, like the speed with which we pick up new skills or the way we can encourage our teammates. But we don’t want the coach to know that we’re argumentative with the referees or struggle to follow through with big plays. Being fully known leaves no room for hiding, no room for glossing over our flaws.

But this is the beauty of the gospel. Even though God has seen each and every one of our sins, mistakes and character flaws, He loved us to the point of sending His Son to die in our place so that we could be reconciled to Him.

In “The Meaning of Marriage,” pastor Tim Keller says, “The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.”

Before we had even taken our first breaths, God knew our mistakes and loved us. He created us “fearfully and wonderfully” in His image, and made a way for us to know Him and experience the great love He has for us.

God made you uniquely and beautifully to reflect His image and His glory.

Application: Spend some time in prayer today, honestly sharing what is on your heart with the Lord and asking Him to reveal broken places within you. Thank Him for His continual presence and acceptance, even in light of your mistakes.
