WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

Then I saw 'a new heaven and a new earth', for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death" or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.' He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new!' Then he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.' Revelation 21:1–5

In the midst of COVID-19, tomorrow is uncertain. Each day we see the death toll rising and new solutions proposed. We don’t know if a vaccine is likely or how long lockdown measures will stay in place. 

But, there is something we do know. We know how the story ends. The Bible tells us that Jesus, the good King, is coming back. God hasn’t abandoned the world. He has a beautiful plan for His creation and His people. 

When Jesus returns, He will make all things new. He will clean up sin and its effects. Sickness and suffering will be no more. Panic and worry and grief will be things of the past. This is better than any vaccine or government policy. It is lasting and final. It’s the perfect solution.

Best of all, we will be with our God: God’s dwelling place is now among the people (Revelation 21:3). We were created to be with Him and He is determined to make that happen. In the death and resurrection of Jesus, He has forgiven our sins and brought us near to Him, relationally. When Jesus returns, we will be near to God in a whole new way. 

In some ways, we don’t know what the future holds. We don’t know when COVID-19 will end or what its full impact will be. And yet, in these uncertain times, Christians can have certainty. Jesus has promised our future to us. Because of His kindness, we will be with God in a world where life and beauty reigns—and this pandemic will just be a memory. This is trustworthy and true. 

You can have certainty of your future, today. Praise God for that, and ask Him to instill that certainty deep in your heart and mind. This news changes everything.
