Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:28
You can feel it in the air. In every conversation and every news report. As you open your social media feed, your heart races a little. You toss and turn at night.
As the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps across our world, these are anxious days.
Why am I anxious?
This world is God’s good creation, and yet, it feels like the world is crumbling around us. Deep down, we all know it’s not supposed to be like this. Our bodies are so vulnerable. So too is our economy, our healthcare system, our government.
We don’t need to be ashamed of our anxiety. This virus is reminding us all of the things that have always been true: something is wrong with the world and we are not in control.
Am I safe?
Anxiety is a natural response in the face of danger. We feel unsafe, but for those who trust in Jesus, we can know real safety. Eternally.
There is one who is control; The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. God is not surprised by this virus. He is not panicking. Not one atom is outside of his control.
In Christ, nothing can separate us from the love of God. No economic crash, no job loss, and no virus. Sick or well, employed or unemployed—you are safe in him.
Peace in an anxious world
If you know that your heavenly Father is in control, you know something much of this world does not. You don’t need to panic buy or live in fear. You, dear Christian, can be the peace in this anxious world. Fight for peace in your heart today.
As your anxiety rises, ask yourself, ‘’Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.’’
May that knowledge change your day and prompt you toward generosity, patience, and courage.
