Amadeo (Still My God)Sample

Amadeo (Still My God)

DAY 5 OF 5

“You are still my God”

“We don’t follow God because we have some sort of under-the-table deal with Him, like 'we’ll follow You if You bless us.' We follow God because we love Him. It's our honor. He’s the God of the hills and the valleys, and He is beautiful above all things”  - Toby McKeehan

I recently finished up my third album, a 10-song collection of songs that I’ve agonized over with tremendous degrees of prayer and personal scrutiny. One of my songs is called “Amadeo”, which is derived from a Latin term meaning “lover of God”. I got the inspiration for this song in particular a few months back as I observed one of my dear friends go through one of the darkest, most painful situations a person could ever face. Watching someone navigate tremendous grief and agony in such a God-honoring manner literally changed the way I have approached the Lord over the past months.

The lyric states:

“Life can take our breath away; tragedy can leave a wake; a broken heart won’t ever beat the same.

Pain can stop us in our tracks; losing what we can’t get back; shaking the foundations of our faith.

No matter what’s in my way; no matter the battles I face; I know that you won’t ever change.

The questions keep us in the fight; the answers never black or white, we may not know until the other side.

But even in this in between, we fix our eyes on what’s unseen; the shadows never overcome the light.

You are still my God, you’re still my rock, my only hope Lord, you’re all I’ve got

In every valley or mountain top, I’ll say hallelujah, you’re still my God!

You’re still my hope, still my peace, still my joy you’re all I need

You’re still my strength when I am weak, you’re still my God, I still believe”

Whatever it is that we are facing today, be encouraged. Colossians 3 says to fix our minds on the realities of heaven, not the realities of earth. It’s my deepest prayer, especially now in the midst of a pandemic, that we would rise up and truly put on a heavenly perspective. When something happens that we don’t understand , we have a tough choice to make. This world is wonderful, but it’s not our ultimate goal. Our ultimate desire is to be with the Lord so we shouldn’t be rattled when we go through situations that inch us closer to our final destination. We can either wallow in fear, doubt and bitterness, or we can stand on the solid rock and proclaim, “He is still my God, no matter what!
