Who Is God?Sample

Who Is God?

DAY 7 OF 7

God is Love.

And that just feels right. But why do we say that? Why do so many of us have that picture of God? You want to know a secret? The idea of God being love first came from one of Jesus’ followers, a man named John. John spent three years with Jesus, learning from Him and doing life with Him. And then after Jesus’ death and resurrection, John became one of the leaders of the early church. At the end of his life, living in exile because of his faith in Jesus, he took some time to reflect on his time with Jesus. He then wrote a letter to other Christians where he told them, “God is love.”

Why did John say that God is love? Because he spent time with God in a body. He spent time with Jesus. And Jesus, the visible image of the invisible God, is the embodiment of love.

Why does this matter? Because so many of us have held on to beliefs about God that just aren’t true. Beliefs that are so much less than who God really is. And what we believe determines how we behave. When we start to see God as infinite, immaterial, pure existence, we start to realize He is so much bigger than our questions. If He weren’t, then He wouldn't be God. When we see God as Jesus, we recognize that we are called to live out the mission and live up to the example of loving people the same way God through Christ has loved us. And when we start to see God as love, then we start to see everyone and everything through the lens of love. And that changes everything.

Who is God? God is love.

God is, always has been, and always will be.

God is our Creator.

God is our perfect heavenly Father, His Son Jesus with us, and the Holy Spirit in us.

God is love.

This changes everything.

Who is God? It’s a question people have been asking since the beginning of time. It’s a big question. Some might even say it’s the question. Because what we believe about God shapes what we believe about everything. So, ...
