Who is God? 

That’s a big question and an important question. A question that, if we’re open to it, can change everything. Why? Because what we believe about God shapes what we believe about everything. It determines how we see ourselves, others, and the world.  

For example, if you believe that God doesn’t exist, and that what you can see, feel, and touch is all there is, then by default you won’t believe that there’s a purpose to life. It’s all an accident. There is no greater meaning to life because life is just a product of chance. 

If you believe that God is just an angry old man in the sky waiting for you to mess up so he can punish you, then all you’ll care about is not messing up. You’ll become obsessed with avoiding the wrong behaviors and your relationship with God won’t be a relationship. It will be a list of what not to do. 

If you believe that God is an impersonal force, like the universe, then, eventually, you’ll find yourself becoming more and more distant from the everyday moments of life. You’ll find yourself becoming more and more disconnected from the people in your life. That’s the result of seeing God as disconnected and impersonal. 

Maybe you believe God is real, and that He created everything, but you aren’t convinced He cares, so it’s hard for you to feel like you should care. As a result, the only time you think about God is when you occasionally show up to church or someone you know dies. 

What if God were so much better, bigger, and more beautiful than any of those false ideas that many of us have? What if God cares for you and all of the universe? What if God wants to know you and He wants you to know Him? What if knowing who God really is could help you discover the truth of what it means to be human and how to live a meaningful life? 

What if, by committing to explore the question of who God is, you could find an answer, and see everything in a whole new way? Would you do it?
