Go: A 40-Day Journey To The Never Reached

DAY 11 OF 40

In and Out

By: Greg Mundis

In John 20:5–10, the disciples went into the tomb of Jesus, saw it was empty and quickly went out. Experiencing the empty tomb was life-changing. The act of going in was a step of faith.

Why? The tomb bore a Roman seal; entering constituted criminal trespass. Yet, the risk paled in comparison to their curiosity. Also, there would be an incredibly foul odor! So, going into the tomb on just Mary’s words was an act of faith. Faith to make a bold step into the unknown.

Because they went in, they witnessed the miracle of the resurrection. Overcoming natural feelings of aversion and fear, they went in and became his witnesses.

How does this apply to us? First: We must have faith to step into the unknown. I don’t know why Peter bolted into the tomb while John stood outside looking in. Was Peter impulsive, full of faith—or both? Why did John hesitate? Did Peter’s actions give John courage? Each of us are given a measure of faith. Like a muscle, faith must be exercised to grow. Is your faith growing?

John saw, believed but didn’t understand. Our faith isn’t in understanding, it’s in Jesus. Step into the tomb and believe in Jesus and what he wants you to do, even if you don’t understand.

Second: when you step into the unknown and see, you become a witness. You have a testimony. Revelation 12:11 says:

“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony;” (NIV).

One’s testimony is a powerful weapon. However, the testimony is only yours if you have gone into the tomb. Peering in gives you an opinion; going in gives you a testimony. Don’t just peer in. Go in, participate, believe, and God will demonstrate his resurrection power in your life.

Go In!

Have you experienced Christ’s resurrection power for yourself? Write out your testimony stemming from that encounter. Be prepared to share it when God opens a door.
