A Living Testimony

God works to get the gospel to never reached people groups no matter how far away—or how close. 

Theara grew up in a village with no Christians. Her family mixed Buddhism with animistic practices. They struggled through life without knowing of Christ or his love.

One day, Theara’s sister fell ill. In vain the family made offerings for a cure at the Buddhist temple. Yet daily she grew worse. Soon the family realized death was inevitable. 

A missionary led by the Spirt came to pray for her. Curious Neighbors pointed out the house, wondering why he came. 

Having exhausted all efforts, the family welcomed any hope. Theara watched him kneel by the bed. Quietly, he prayed in the name of Jesus. Rising he left without fanfare.

That simple, powerful prayer changed everything. Theara’s sister completely recovered. Theara too was transformed. God changed her heart with the prayer in Jesus’ name. The villagers questioned the healing, but Theara knew. She believed. Her village now had a believer. 

 Soon, it became obvious Theara was an evangelist. In two years, she led fifty people to Christ! Theara’s gift flourished as she studied at Bible school. I taught Theara the Book of Acts. As we studied the apostles. I saw urgency in her eyes.

I asked the class where they would like to minister. It’s common for students to mention faraway places. Theara named a place near her home. I asked why.

“It has no gospel witness,” she answered. 

Jesus sent his followers to all nations. But the real point is to tell those who need to hear. In Luke 8:38–39, a man Jesus delivered wanted to follow Jesus. But:

“Jesus sent him away, saying, ‘Return home and tell how much God has done for you.’ So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him” (Luke 8:38–39 NIV).

Theara is reaching the never reached, in her home province. Are you?

You don’t always have to go far to share the gospel with never reached people. Investigate avenues of reaching them in your local university or other community gathering spots.
